Rangers roll over Andover 7-0

Weather conditions for Forest Lakeís girls tennis team couldnít have been much better this week and the same could be said for how the Rangers did.

Forest Lake defeated North St. Paul 5-2 on Monday and disposed of Andover 7-0 on Tuesday in a pair of nonconference matches.

Following the Rangersí blanking of Andover, Forest Lake coach Judy Hill said she was impressed with the play of her team thus far.

ìIím happy the girls kept their concentration and Iím happy they all won their matches,î Hill said. ìSometimes you can get a little sloppy (against a lesser opponent). Iím glad the girls kept concentrating and they played hard all the way to the end.î

This is Andoverís first year in existence as a high school and the Rangers wasted little time in taking advantage of the new schoolís inexperience.

In all, Forest Lake dropped just 10 varsity games and no sets.

Jenny Kling took a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles for the Rangers and Paige Patchin was victorious at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-1.

Stefanie England posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles for Forest Lake and Kelly Dobihal won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

In doubles play, Forest Lakeís Emily Morrison and Katie Anderson won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 while the Rangersí No. 2 team of Katie Owen and Hilary Framke took a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

At No. 3 doubles, Forest Lakeís Aleksandra Kojic and Megan Hassler won 6-0, 6-1.

Early in the season, especially before play begins in the Suburban East Conference, Hill said it was important for the Rangers to build some momentum.

ìItís a nice confidence boost,î Hill said. ìEspecially for the doubles. Weíre still mixing them up quite a bit, so itís good for them to get some wins under their belt.î

In the win over the Polars, Forest Lake swept all four singles matches with Kling (6-0, 6-1), Patchin (6-2, 6-0), England (6-0, 6-1) and Dobihal (6-1, 6-0) each winning.

In doubles, Forest Lake got a 6-2, 7-5 victory from its No. 3 team of Hassler and Kojic.
On Saturday, Forest Lake took part in the Stillwater Invitational, which is an individual tournament.

Hill said she was extremely pleased with the way the Rangers performed at Stillwater in their first action of the year.

Patchin was the highest placer for the Rangers, taking third at No. 2 singles.
