Posted: 8/21/02 The fishing is still great!Without a doubt Forest Lake has changed significantly since the early 1960s, but in the 40-year span of time, one constant has remained. The fishing is still good on Forest Lake. Local resident Jim Houle can testify to that fact and has the photo evidence to prove it. As a youngster growing up in Forest Lake, the son of Henry and Elaine Houle spent many hours on the lake fishing. In the file photo above taken by Jim Broede, a 10-year-old Houle beams as he displays the 34-inch northern pike that he caught from a dock on the north shore of First Lake in August of 1963. The northern weighed in at more than 8 pounds. At 49 today, Houle continues to fish the Forest Lake chain with regularity and with success. On June 18, Houle caught a 48-inch muskie, photo left, while fishing off the point on First Lake. The muskie, which was released, was not weighed but likely weighed in excess of 30 pounds, according to Houleís father, Henry Houle, who submitted the photo.
