Woman, 87, killed in Hugo crash

An 87-year-old woman from West St. Paul was killed in a head-on collision in Hugo last week.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Helene Seidl was killed last Thursday when her southbound car collided with another vehicle on US-61 at 177th St. N.

The accident took place at 4:11 p.m. Two other cars were involved in the crash.

According to report, Seidlís vehicle crossed over the center line and sideswiped two northbound vehicles before crashing head-on with the third vehicle.

She was dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Burglaries

In other police news, officers here are investigating four business burglaries. Three took place at Northland Mall, 1492 S. Lake St. on Sunday night.

Police believe someone hid inside the mall until the mall had closed on Sunday. After closing, the burglars entered Cost Cutters, LA Nails and the Dollar Shoppe,

The burglary was discovered at 8:30 p.m. A change machine taken from Cost Cutters was found in a dumpster on the west side of the mall. No other loss was reported, police said.

Earlier on Sunday, Forest Lake Travel, 20 N. Lake St., was burglarized. Someone entered the travel agency by removing a plate glass window on the inside hallway of the second floor office in Town Square.

The travel agency reported the loss of a safe, cash and an electronic postal scale. The burglary took place between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Police are also encouraging residents to not leave valuables in cars. In two instances last week, purses were taken from cars parked at Sharewood Community Forest Playground.

Vandals also struck at the Third Lake boat landing last Friday. Two satellites were set on fire at 5 p.m. Total loss was $2000, including a handicapped satellite with value of $1500.

At Forest Lake Ford, 231 SW 19th St., four tires and rims with value of $800 were taken from a Ford Ranger pickup. The theft was reported to police Monday and took place over the weekend.

Randall Heffern, Osceola, WI, reported the theft of two vehicles from the 900 block of SW 8th Ave. on Sunday. The man said a 1987 Ford Ranger pickup and a 1983 Chevrolet van and travel trailer were taken over the weekend.

The van and trailer are still missing, but police recovered the Ford Ranger on Monday in the Cub Foods parking lot west of I-35.
