Principals get new contract

Itís a year late, but principals in ISD 831 now have a new two-year wage and benefit contract.

The school board voted 6-0 Monday night to ratify the two-year pact that covers the period July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2003. The 15-member employee group voted to ratify the tentative agreement on July 25.

The settlement provides a 6.9 percent salary schedule improvement (4 percent in 2001-2002 and 2.9 percent in 2002-2003). Insurance benefits will add another 2 percent of value to the new contract over the two-year period.

Under the salary schedule approved as part of the contract, principals working in ISD 831 will received the following compensation in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003, respectively:

ïHigh school principal, $95,783 and $98,649.

ïJunior high school principal, $89,289 and $92,004.

ïALC principal, $87,666 and $90,343.

ïElementary principal, $84,419 and $87,021.

ïSenior high school assistant principal, $82,795 and $85,359.

ïJunior high school assistant principal, $79,549 and $82,037.

Principals have been working on a continuing contract basis while negotiations continued for the new contract.

The new contract will require total dollars of $1,313,648 in the first year and $1,352,939 in the second year of the deal.

The board on Monday, according to state law, adopted a resolution indicating the new contract for the principals will not cause a structural imbalance in the districtís budget during the period the collective bargaining agreement is in place.

The new reporting requirement for school districts was adopted by the 2001 legislature. The vote was 6-0 on the resolution approving the structural balance report.
