Posted: 12/4/02 Coryell pleased with planningAlice Pickering In his report Monday night, City Administrator Dennis Coryell told Wyoming City Council members the strategic planning session to lay ground work for the land use study was a good one. Planner Bill Thibault met with members of the council, EDA, planning commission, and township representatives on Nov. 25. The area under consideration is the northeast quadrant of the city. Council member Ed Andler observed that of all those participating no one mentioned townhouses or other residential development as a priority for the area. A summary of this meeting is being prepared and will help direct the study. Gaughan update In his tour of the new Plaza building in Forest Lake, Coryell said he and Chris Eng learned that the builder, Gaughan Company, is interested in working with the city to participate in the Wyoming City Centre development. Performance deadlines and timely purchase of property are important to reach an agreement. Other companies interested in participating in this development also want to work with Stars and Strikes, the family entertainment center that is still in the planning stage. Developers have expressed a willingness to build the street to connect the area south of the Sunrise River with the business area north. If that happens, traffic volume onto 273rd will not be so heavy. Coryell anticipates competition for locations in the area, with building construction in stages. On the recommendation of the EDA, council unanimously approved the appointment of Paul Raduenz as chair of the EDA. Raduenz is a charter member of the EDA. In the opinion of the council, brings considerable experience and insures continuity for the group. He will leave his city council seat at the end of the year. Mayor Vern Haag is beginning review of the 2002 council appointments. He will meet with council members to generate appointments for 2003. Partnership for Violence Free Wyoming assembled cocoa packets and letters encouraging time together for distribution at Wyoming Elementary School.
