Vandals hit mailboxes in Forest Lake

Vandals went on a weekend spree in Forest Lake damaging a series of mailboxes and also went after street signs and one fire hydrant.

City police said this week as many as 25 mailboxes were damaged by what appeared to be a baseball bat. Most of the reports were made Monday morning, police said.

The main concentration of the vandalism reports came from the former township area of Forest Lake, police said.

In one case reported from South Shore Drive, the vandals attempted to damage a hydrant and a street sign.

Vandals also did damage to an apartment building construction site at 680 SW 12th St.

Nine screen windows and four patio screen doors were slashed during the weekend crime. Five patio door windows and sliding glass patio doors were broken, police said.

Police also found evidence of an attempt to start a fire in the apartment building.

A residential burglary reported to police late week resulted in the theft of a computer valued at $900 and tools with value of $485. The forced-entry burglary took place in late November, police said.
