Wyoming hears development reports

Wyoming City Council Monday night received an update from finanacial advisor Kristen Barsness on downtown development.

For the 13-acre development site on the northwest corner of Viking Boulevard and US-61, Barsness said she has remained in contact with Tom Kellison on his possible acquisition of the property for future development. Those plans are still pending.

Preliminary talks on the property began with Kellison last October, and Barsness is finishing several negotiations in agreement with the city council.

The property has development potential may get involved with several commercial businesses, some of which include a hotel, restaurant, and possibly a medical building.

Fairview plans

In other developments reviewed at Mondayís council meeting, City Administrator Dennis Coryell announced Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center plans to add a 7000 square-foot facility designated for cancer treatment.

The building is planned for hospital grounds, and will reqiore an expansion in the parking lot, as well, he said.

Talks of a possible need for another city water well at the hospital also took place.

The hospital currently recycles some of its water, however with new facility might require the hospital to install an additional well.

Other News

At the meeting on July 1, city council members approved the change orders for the new city well.

Besides recommending the payment for the third well, Kathryn Jones proposed change orders for Well #3, including a deadline extension for Emcom.

Reasons given for the extension were related to weather, the necessity of a larger pump for the larger casing required for the drilling and a two-foot increase in the dimensions of the well house to accommodate the casing.

The cost of the larger pump is $3479 and cost to increase the well house, estimated at $4700

Revenue sources and investments to fund the changes were explained by Coryell.

Following the recommendation of the planning commission, council approved a variance for Jay Grant to locate a storage shed in his side yard on 273rd Street, instead of the backyard.

There was no opposition from neighbors in regards to the shedís location. The drainage plan in the back yard would be ineffective if the shed were to be located there.

The council unanimously adopted a resolution on July 1 approving a conditional use permit for the Pizza Zone Restaurant to replace Joeís Pizza in the Viking Commons Building.

Conditions for granting the permit include adherence to the same environmental and aesthetic standards as imposed on the original Joeís Pizza.

Coryell reports

In his report, Coryell reported on preliminary budget work and announced that most of the cost figures for the downtown development project have been determined.

Site plans for two Credit Union Recovery buildings on the Bingham property have been prepared.

A large addition to Fairview Hospital is planned for this season. Finally, he told the city council plan to pass on to Village Inn any sewer jetting costs related to its failure to use restaurant grease traps, instead, illegally using city sewers.

Council member Lynn Koalska reported that the EDA would like to buy an option on the Morrell property. Koalska, who is liaison to Parks, told colleagues that bidding information is needed for grading projects.

The final news was that bills need to be submitted for the MASC grant and that summer recreations programs have begun.

Mayor Vern Haag asked the Building Committee to identify uses and financing options for the Community Center space. Council members were invited to contribute ideas.
