Care Wise Health Fair is Aug. 4

Care Wise Health Fair 2002, designed to help senior citizens in finding needed resources, is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, August 4. Sen Paul Wellstone is slated to visit from noon to 1.

The free event will be at the Forest Lake Senior Community Center, 767 SW 4th St., Forest Lake.

U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone will speak on senior issues noon to 1 p.m.

The event will feature information booths with important numbers for senior citizens. Human service representatives from Anoka, Chisago and Washington counties will be on hand with available assistance.

Booths will be staffed with a nutritionist, optometrists, hearing services, chiropractor, blood pressure and blood sugar testing and an information table with needed items.

The health fair also will feature free food, live music, a prize wheel and other attractions.

The event is being planned by Brenda Ward of Elder Haven, Sue Boettner of Forest Lake Senior Center, Lisa Kasel of Columbus Senior Center, Karen Jawish of Windy Acres and Jim Tipping of Landmark Insurance Services.

While the five have the ball rolling, they need the help of area businesses to help sponsor the event.

With a ballpark price sticker of $1,500, sponsorship is needed for donations, transportation and prizes. Needs include monetary donations, printing, decorations, prizes, advertising, signs/banners, care bags, ice cream, napkins, magnets, dosage boxes, printed pencils, T-Shirts, hog dogs and buns, condiments and paper plates.

Businesses interested in sponsoring the event are encouraged to contact Sue Boettner at 651-464-5833.

Transportation

Free transportation is available for seniors from the following locations: Linwood Senior Center, Columbus Senior Center, Kilkenny Court, Village Apartments, Island Estates, Whispering Pines and Westview Apartments.

Seniors wanting rides must sign up by Thursday, August 1.
