Walgreens drug store got a slew of approvals at the Forest Lake City Council Monday, July 22.

The council approved Walgreens site plan, wetland conservation act application and certificate of design compliance. Walgreens will be built north of West Broadway Avenue, east of Amoco and west of Perkins restaurant.

Hardeeís and St. Croix Jewelers will be demolished to make way for the new drug store.

The site is 58,000 square feet. The proposed store will be 14,490 square feet.

The council denied a signage variance, though it was the recommendation of the cityís design review committee.

John Kohler of Semper Development came before the council with details of the plan.

With approvals in hand, Kohler said store officials now will move forward with closing on purchases of Hardeeís and the St. Croix Jewelers buildings.

He estimated the store will take five months to build and one month to stock and fixture the building.

There were seven conditions laid out for the certificate of design compliance.

The first of those, a 24 foot cross easement is required at the back of the lot ìto allow for current or future connects and circulation patterns to other properties in case proposed 1st Street is never built.î
