Posted: 7/3/02 FL French students visit QuebecA group of Forest Lake French language students recently flew from Minneapolis to Montreal for a five day French adventure. The trip was organized by teachers Karen Lewis and Annette Hegler. The group consisted of 24 students from Century and Southwest Junior Highs and five adults. In the cosmopolitan city of Montreal, the group explored Old Montreal on foot, rode the cityís modern subway and toured the Olympic Stadium. On the second day, a bus carried the group on to the city of QuČbec where French-speaking host families welcomed the students for a two night stay. The next day, all of the students gathered for a historic tour and a scavenger hunt in Vieux (old) QuČbec. The following day an excursion to the basilica of Sainte Anne de BeauprČ gave the students a view of rural QuČbec and the Montmorency Falls. The highlight of the final evening was a QuČbecois dinner at a traditional sugar shack with fiddle music and folk dancing. That night the students stayed in the Clarendon Hotel in the heart of Old QuČbec. On June 17, the students enjoyed some free time to shop for souvenirs and soak up the French ambience before boarding a bus for the return to Montrealís Dorval Airport and the flight home. ěThis trip gave the students a chance to put their classroom French to practical use,î teacher Karen Lewis said. ěIn Montreal we heard a lot of English, but when we got to QuČbec City, it was 95 percent French. The students had the experience of eating out, shopping, exploring and getting acquainted with their host families in a French environment. This trip was a wonderful learning opportunity as well as a lot of fun for everybody.î |
