Grant will help buy voting machines

The Washington County Board of Commissioners has accepted a state grant in the amount of $19,250 to cover half the cost of seven additional Accu-Vote precinct tabulators.

The seven tabulators are needed for the seven new voting precincts that will be created in the county this fall due to redistricting.

The Minnesota Legislature established the Voting Equipment Grant Account in 2001 and funded it with $1.9 million. Funds provided by the grant are to enable those local governments that do not have precinct-based optical scan equipment to acquire such equipment.
