Posted: 6/12/02 Seniors win local, regional awardsMany Forest Lake High School Seniors were awarded with National, Regional and Community Scholarships and Awards this year. Awards were announced during an awards banquet Monday, June 3 at the high school. These scholarships and awards are based on individual talents, academic achievements, leadership, and participation in high school and community activities.Ý The majority of the recipients of these scholarships have no knowledge that they have won until they are announced at this awards ceremony.Ý ï $500 Allina Medical Clinic scholarships: Jenna Coleman, Alison Welch. The Allina Medical Clinic scholarships are presented to two Ý deserving seniors who are planning to pursue a career in the health field. Ý ï John E. Allquist Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by the Stacy Lions. The winners of these $500 memorial scholarships are: Ý ÝRobert J. Jensen, Matthew Lovgren, Ty Thomsen and Emily Vadner. The John E. Allquist Memorial Scholarship Fund is awarded to graduating seniors of Ý Forest Lake Area High School.Ý The scholarship must be used for the purpose of continuing Ý education beyond high school at either a college or technical college. ï Three $500 Birchwood Health Care Center Nursing Scholarships are to Jenna Coleman, Lindsay Kempenich and Cynthia Mann. Ý Birchwood awards this scholarship to students pursuing a career in nursing who have demonstrated academic and civic excellence. ï Car-X Service Scholarship awarded to Joseph Grubbs.ÝThis is the second year this $500 scholarship is being offered to a deserving senior who will beÝ studying automotive repair at an accredited technical institute. Ý Ý ï Circle Lex Lino Lakes VFW Ý#6583 scholarships presented to Mark Miron for $1,000 and Alexander Pennell for $800. These scholarshipsÝ may be used at either colleges or technical colleges of the studentsíchoice. The requirement for this scholarship is academic success in high school and patriotism. Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý ï Columbus Lioness Club Scholarship is presented to Leanne Wagamon. The $250 award is based on academic performance and involvement in school and community. ï Columbus Lions Club Scholarship presented to Emily J. Carlson and Joseph Grubbs. These $250scholarships based on academic excellence and involvement in school and community activities.Ý Students who receive the Columbus Lions Club Scholarship may attend a school of their choice. ï Rick Doyle Memorial Scholarships. These $500 scholarships were presented to the following eight students: Lindsay Kempenich, Thea Maus, Jacob Petroske, Jamie Plochocki, Jackelyn Raeker, Joshua Robinson, Jennifer Tomlinson, Leanne Wagamon. Rick Doyle lived in Stacy, for almost all of his life. He attended North Branch schools from kindergarten until he graduated in 1987.Ý While serving as a police officer, Doyle was killed during an armed robbery in Stacy, Minnesota on December 6, 1994.Ý Every year in his honor, there is a golf tournament.Ý The proceeds from this tournament fund the scholarship. Ýï ERA Muske Company Community Support Scholarship. Jenny Wheatley, $500. The agents of ERA Muske Company give back to the communities in which they serve by contributing a portion of each commission check to the ERA Community Support Program.Ý The agent committee donates time, materials, gifts, and money to our communities.Ý The committee has awarded this scholarship to a high school senior who has demonstrated this same personal involvement in ìgiving backî to the community.Ý ï Fairview Lakes Regional Auxiliary Leah Hillesheim $1000 Scholarship: Lindsay Kempenich, Emma Rieck These scholarships are given by the Fairview Lakes Regional Auxiliary in honor of former administrator, Leah Hillesheim, of the District Memorial Hospital in Forest Lake. Ý ï FFA Sandager Honorarium Agricultural Scholarship. Gregory Sandager - $200, Tabitha Berglund- $100, Tiffany Rieckenberg - $100, Ryan Waldoch - $100 Ý ÝThe Sandager Agricultural Scholarship is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated leadership in the Forest Lake FFA, his/herÝ school and community andÝ has chosen to pursue a career in agriculture.Ý Ý Ý ï Forest Lake American Legion Auxiliary Past Presidentís Parley Scholarship. The winners are: Ý Ý Lisa Hatlestad and Jacob Petroske. The Forest Lake American Legion Post Auxiliary offers two $250 scholarships toÝ Ý deserving seniors.Ý The scholarship winners of this award may attend a college or Ý technical college. ï Forest Lake Area Athletic Association (FLAAA). The five winners of these $1,000 scholarships are: Jenna Coleman, Jessica Kopp, Matthew Lovgren, Mark Miron and Alison Welch. Forest Lake Area Athletic Association awards these scholarships based on athletic and academic achievement, and school and community involvement.Ý Scholarships are given to athletes who are planning on attending a college or university. ï Forest Lake Association of Educational Office Personnel Scholarship. The winners are: Jessica Kopp and Tiffany Martin. These $500 scholarships are being awarded to seniors who will be continuing their education in the field of business at either a college or technical college.Ý ï Forest Lake Hockey Association. The winners are: Joseph Birkholz and Christopher Docken. ÝThese $500 scholarships recognize academic achievement, while participating in at least four years of hockey in the Forest Lake Hockey Association and/or Forest Lake Area High School hockey program.Ý ï Forest Lake Hoop Club. Winners of the three $250 scholarships are: Jason Cole, Jessica Kopp and Grant Robertson. The Forest Lake Hoop Club is a local non-profit organization that directs the traveling basketball program for boys and girls in 5th - 9th grade who reside in the Forest Lake Area school district.Ý These awards are offered in memory of one of their past members, Terry Boeck, who passed away in 2000 due to cancer. ï Forest Lake Lions Community Service Scholarship. The winners of $500 scholarships (renewable for a second year are Robert Jensen, Thea Maus and Jenny Wheatley. The Forest Lake Lions Community Service Scholarship encourages members of our community to be involved in fulfilling community services. These scholarships are awarded to those students who exemplify the spirit of Lionism through their actions.Ý This service can be through an organization or by individual efforts to help our community and/or its individual members.ÝÝ ï Forest Lake Masonic Lodge Scholarship. The winners of these $700 scholarships are: Anna Peterson and Anthony Voda. ÝThis scholarship is open to seniors who plan to attend a college or technical college. Applicants are judged on citizenship, leadership, loyalty, academic promise and participation in school and community activities.Ý ïÝForest Lake Rotary Club Senior Strive Scholarship. The winners are: Mark Miron - $1,000, Grant Robertson - $1,000 and Thea Maus - $500 To be eligible for this scholarship, a senior must demonstrate the greatest improvement in cumulative GPA from the end of the first semester of the junior year through the end of the third term of the senior year, and complete 15 hours of community involvement. ï Forest Lake Safety Camp Scholarship. The winners of these $500 scholarships are: Ý Ý Thea Maus and Peter Zajac.ÝForest Lake Safety Camp was formed in 1995 following a tragic car/bike accident involving a Forest Lake student.Ý Recognizing a need for improving safety for our youth, and through the generous and ongoing support of the Forest Lake area business community, the Safety Camp Scholarship fund was founded.Ý This 2002 scholarship is presented to two students who have demonstrated extraordinary service above self, their community, state, and families, and wish to pursue careers in areas of safety or ongoing service occupations.ÝÝ This yearís recipients exemplify a superior level of commitment to service. ï Hugo American Legion Post #620 Scholarship. The winners are: Erin Kluk, Jessica Kopp, Mark Miron, Lindsay Plocher, Alison Welch and Jenny Wheatley.Ý The Hugo American Legion Post #620 offers $2,000 scholarships to deserving students from the surrounding communities.Ý Winners are based on future educational plans, letters of recommendation, academics, and financial need. Forest Lake Area High School is proud to have 6 recipients of these $2,000 scholarships.Ý Ý Ý ï Hugo Lions Club Scholarship. The winners of these $1,000 scholarships are: Ý Ý Erin Kluk, Mark Miron, Lindsay Plocher. ÝTheÝ Lions Club scholarship is awarding three $1,000 scholarships to qualified seniors.Ý The scholarship committee bases their selection on academic record, application accuracy, and involvement in school and community activities.Ý The award is made to a student planning on attending college or a technical college, and must be a resident of Hugo. ï Lee Kemp Forest Lake Ford Scholarships.ÝThe winners are: Matthew Fraley, Robert Jensen, Thea Maus, Carise Rotach, and Matt Thorpe. The Lee Kemp Forest Lake Ford Scholarship Program is proud to present five $500 scholarships.Ý Applicants are judged on the basis of their academic record, community leadership, and athletic accomplishments. ï Lino Lakes Lioness Club Scholarship. The winner is: Thea Maus. The Lino Lakes Lioness Club offers one $250 scholarship to a graduating senior who is a resident of Lino Lakes. The scholarship may be used for educational expenses at a college or technical college.Ý Ý Ý ï Lino Lakes Lions Club Scholarship. The winner is: Benjamin Hanson. The Lino Lakes Lions Club is awarding one $1,000 Raymond Johnson Scholarship to a senior graduating from Forest Lake Area High School who is a resident of Lino Lakes.Ý The scholarship award can be used to pay for educational expenses at a college or technical college.Ý ï Linwood Helping Hand Club Scholarship. The winners of these $300 scholarships are: Ý Ý Crystal Gaalaas and Jacob Petroske. This scholarship is awarded to seniors who have achieved academic success and have been very active in school and Linwood community activities. ï Lutheran Brotherhood Scholarship. The winner of the $2,000 scholarship is: Jenny Wheatley. AAL/Lutheran Brotherhood is proud to present Jenny Wheatley with the 2002-2003 member scholarship.Ý Jenny was selected for her outstanding academic excellence, leadership, and participation in church and community activities.Ý Jenny will receive $2,000 annually over four years.Ý She will be attending Augsburg College. ï Minnesota National Guard Leadership Excellence and Dedicated Service Scholarship. The recipient is: Paul Nelson. The Minnesota National Guard has selected a Forest Lake Area High School senior to receive the LEADS Scholarship.Ý This $1,000 scholarship recognizes high school seniors based upon demonstrated leadership, community service and potential for success in the Minnesota National Guard. ï D.J. Morehead Athletic and Academic Scholarship. The winner is: Aaron Rupar. ÝThis scholarship is given in memory of D.J. Morehead, a graduate of Forest Lake High School.ÝOne $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Forest Lake High School graduating senior who has participated in football, basketball or baseball.Ý This award is to be used to further education at a college or technical college. ï District 831 Principalís Scholarship. The winners of these $500 scholarships are: Tabitha Berglund- Forest View Elementary, Benjamin Hanson- Lino Lakes Elementary, Joseph Morcomb- Columbus Elementary, Cassandra Roseen - Linwood Elementary, Carise Rotach- Forest Lake Elementary, Gregory Sandager- Scandia Elementary and Jennifer Wheatley- Wyoming Elementary The Forest Lake Principalís Association has combined to provide seven $250 scholarships which are being matched by $250 from the Community Scholarship Foundation for a total of $500 per student.Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý ï Quad Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship.This $250 scholarship is presented to: Jenna Coleman. The Quad Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to present their scholarship toÝa deserving Forest Lake Area High School student.Ý ï Rydin Decal Scholarship. Five $500 scholarships are presented to: Josh Ackerly, Rachel Blake, Emily Vadner, Adam Williams and Adam Wilson. Over the past four years Rydin Decal (Forest Lake Area High School parking permit company), has given away scholarships to high schools throughout all of North America.ÝFive schools were chosen to receive $2,500 scholarships.Ý This year Forest Lake Area High School has been chosen as one of the five.Ý The scholarship has been divided between five individuals, each receiving a $500 scholarship.Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý ï Scandia-Marine Lions Club Scholarship.ÝThe winner is: Kathryn Benson. Ý The Scandia-Marine Lions Club is pleased to award a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving senior who attended Scandia Elementary School, and resides in the Scandia-Marine community.ÝThis scholarship is awarded to a senior who has excelled in academic studies, and has provided leadership and involvement in school and community activities. ï Kristi Schally Memorial Scholarship. The winners of these $500 scholarships are: Ý Ý Rachel Blake, Matthew Lovgren, Thea Maus, ÝGrant Robertson. This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Kristi Schally who was a member of the class of 1998 and was tragicallyÝ killed in a car accident. These scholarships are beingÝ awarded to four seniors who have participated in school and community activities.Ý These seniors are givers not takers, and symbolize Kristiís personality and attitude. ï John Schumacher MemorialÝScholarship. The winner is Stephanie Howe. The John Schumacher Memorial Scholarship awards $300 in memory of John Schumacher, who was a teacher for 26 years, and coached baseball, basketball, football and track in the Forest Lake District. These scholarships are awarded to a Forest Lake Senior who has demonstrated excellence as a citizen-athlete and will be furthering his/her education after graduation.Ý ï Support Our Fine Arts Scholarship. The winner of this $500 scholarship is: Jenny Wheatley. The student who receives this scholarship has shown superior involvement andÝdedication to the fine arts, demonstrated a good work ethic, respect for other students involved in the fine arts, and the desire to learn more and improve his/her talent while in high school.ÝHe/she must also plan to use the scholarship money for the continuation of education in the fine arts at a post secondary educational institute. ï Stephen Taylor Memorial ScholarshipóLino Lakes Elementary School. Winners of the $500 scholarship are: Ý Ý Robert Jensen and Thea Maus. The Stephen Taylor Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a Forest Lake Area High School senior who attended Lino Lakes Elementary School.Ý It is intended to recognize students who have demonstrated academic excellence, community involvement and who aspire to defined goals through higher education.Ý For the past nine years, a single student has been named as the recipient.Ý This year, in loving memory of Stephen and in honor of his graduating class of 2002, we are proud to award two $500 scholarships to these deserving students. ï United States Air Force ROTC Scholarship. The Air Force ROTC Scholarship is awarded to two seniors: Ý Ý Peter Bulinski and Eric Morin. ï U.S. Bank High School Award. Winner of the $250 scholarship is William Mitchell. The U.S. Bank High School Award is presented to a student who has exemplified leadership, involvement in school and community activities, a willingness to help others, and demonstrate personal integrity and responsibility. ï Wyoming Lions Club Scholarship.ÝThe winners of these $250 scholarships are: Tiffany Martin and Jenny Wheatley. Requirements for this scholarship include thatÝ students live in the City of Wyoming or Wyoming Township, have demonstrated community and school involvement and have excelled in their high school studies. ï Wyoming Parent Teacher Association Scholarship. The winner of the Wyoming Parent Teacher Association Scholarship is Jenny Wheatley. One post-secondary scholarship of $500 will be awarded annually to a graduating senior who previously attended Wyoming Elementary School.Ý This scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence and community and high school involvement.Ý ï Perfect Attendance Awards.
