Posted: 6/5/02 Boyer leaving ISD 831 School BoardCliff Buchan Clyde Boyer is leaving the ISD 831 School Board at the end of the month. Boyer submitted a letter of resignation at the boardís monthly business meeting Monday night. The resignation is effective June 30, 2002. Boyer said a job transfer has forced his decision to resign from the board. He is a revenue officer with the Internal Revenue Service and has accepted a transfer to Lakeland, FL. Boyer expressed thanks and appreciation for his time on the school board. He was appointed to fill a vacancy in September of 1998 and was elected to a four year term in November of 1999. His current board term runs through 2003. In leaving the board, Boyer presented a challenge to the citizens of the district: ìThere is an on-going need for new ideas and programs to meet the challenges for the educational future of this school district,î he wrote. ìThe welcome mat is out to persons of all ages to become involved. The ultimate goal is ëwhatís best for kids.íî Boyer is a native of this area. He was born in Columbus Township before moving with his family at a young age. He returned to Forest Lake in 1992 and accepted public service with his appointment to the school board in 1998. Appointment steps Board President Bill Bresin said he expects the board to appoint a replacement for Boyer by early in September. At the July 8 meeting, Bresin said the board will discuss Policy 115 which deals with school board vacancies. At that time the board is expected to formally open the position for applications from the public. Under the board policy, the district will advertise for the position. Candidates will be asked to submit a letter of application and resume, Bresin said. He said the board would then move forward with a series of interviews. Under the policy, up to six applicants may be interviewed by the board with each of the six sitting board members allowed to select one candidate to be interviewed. Bresin said the appointment would likely be made in August with the new member taking office in September. The appointment would be for the balance of Boyerís current four year term. Boyerís wife, Carleen Peterson, a staff member of the districtís ALC program, has been granted a five-year leave of absence from her duties in ISD 831. |
