Kmart store closing sale begins in FL

Although store officials in Forest Lake still wonít say when the Big Kmart here will close, the store has commenced its going out of business sale.

The sale started last weekend, but store manager Gary Olson says he has instructions not to talk about the storeís actual closing date.

The store has been identified as one Kmart Corporation will close as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization plan. Six stores in Minnesota will close as part of that plan.

While Olson wasnít commenting on specifics of the local business, Kmart Corporation notified Forest Lake City Council this week the Big Kmart in Forest Lake will ìbe permanently closed on May 7, 2002.

The 90 employees of the store will be terminated on or about May 7, 2002.
