Posted: 3/27/02 Wine tasting benefit now May 3Weather has forced a change for the second annual Wine Tasting Benefit for Northwoods Humane Society. The new date is May 3. After a foot of snow fell in the Forest Lake area on Thursday, March 14, organizers of the benefit elected to postpone the fund-raiser. It is now set for 6:30 p.m., Friday, May 3 at American Legion Post 225, 355 W. Broadway Ave. Anne Tousignant, an event organizer, said the arrival of the March storm last week left planners with little choice but to postpone the event. As high winds whipped the snow and made travel dangerous, it was clear the storm would keep people at home. ìWe decided personal safety was more important,î she said. As the event continues on May 3, all tickets sold for the March 14 event remain good. Ticket sales will continue. Tickets may be purchased locally at MGM Wine and Spirits in Forest Lake in the Cub Foods mall west of I-35 and at Northwoods Humane Society located on US-8 11/2 miles east of Forest Lake. MGM is the official benefit sponsor. Ticket cost is $35 per person in advance. Tickets will be sold at the door at $40 per person on May 3. All ticket buyers will receive a commemorative wine glass and charm for the 2002 event. Tousignant said event planners were disappointed by the need to postpone last weekís event, but remained optimistic the benefit will be stronger with a date in May. ìIt is going to be better,î Tousignant said. Rita Maloney of WCCO radio was slated to be guest host for the evening on March 14. Event planners are checking with Maloney to see if she is available for the May date.
