Tennis team wins final two SEC matches Excellent doubles play allowed the Forest Lake boys tennis team to earn its first two Suburban East Conference victories in the final two SEC matches of the season. Forest Lake won all three doubles matches against Woodbury and Park to bea the Royals 5-2 on Monday and the Wolfpack 5-2 on Friday. On Wednesday, May 8, Stillwater defeated the Rangers 7-0. Forest Lake finished the SEC season with a 2-5 mark, which tied White Bear Lake and Woodbury for fifth place. In the win over Woodbury, Kyle Tennis won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles while Luke Odegaard won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Rangers. Forest Lakeís No. 1 doubles team of Steve Maefsky and Nick Frantzen won 6-0, 6-2 and the No. 2 doubles team of Jeff Randall and Jason Botterill won 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. At No. 3 doubles, Forest Lakeís Tyler Anderson and Tyler Gage took a 6-3, 6-1 victory. In beating Park, Tennis (6-3, 6-1) and Odegaard (6-2, 6-2) won at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Maefsky and Frantzen won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while Botterill and Randall won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Anderson and Max Conrad won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles. FL falls 6-5 to Hastings in extra innings Hastings scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally past Forest Lake 6-5 in a Suburban East Conference baseball game Monday night. Doug Langeís two-run home run in the top of the sixth had tied the game at 4-4 for Forest Lake and the Rangers scored once in the top of the eighth to take a 5-4 lead, but Hastings got three consecutive hits in the bottom half of the inning for the win. On Friday, Forest Lake beat Lakeville 8-3 at the New Ulm Tournament. Chris Parent had a perfect game through five innings for the Rangers. The remainder of the tournament was cancelled Saturday. Thorpís 85 leads Rangers at Keller Matt Thorp shot a team-best 85 to lead the Forest Lake boys golf team at the Suburban East Conference 18-hole meet on Tuesday at Keller Golf Course. Thorp was followed by Phil Parzino (86), Charlie Mayer (87), Jacob Svenkeson (88), Dan Svenkeson (89) and Nate Denny (91). Team scores were not available at deadline. On Monday, Forest Lake finished seventh at a SEC meet at North Oaks. Parzino shot a team-best 41 while Dan Svenkeson and Thorp each shot a 43. On Thursday, May 8, at Prestwick, Forest Lake finished eighth with Parzino leading the way with a 42. FLís Swanson medals at River Oaks Krista Swanson shot a 5-over, 40, to medal and lead the Forest Lake girls golf team to a third-place finish at a Suburban East Conference meet at River Oaks Golf Club on Thursday, May 9. Christie Brink added a 45 for the Rangers while Sarah Berger shot a 51, Laura Henry a 54, Krista Skoglund a 58 and Trisha Thomsen a 60. Recent bad weather forced Forest Lake to play a pair of nine-hole SEC tournaments on Monday. Swanson shot a 42 to help Forest Lake to a fourth-place finish at Midland Hills and Forest Lake also finished seventh at North Oaks earlier in the day. Softball team reaches Eastview final Forest Lake, 7-7, defeated St. Agnes (13-3) and Hastings (7-6) on Saturday to reach the championship game of the Eastview Tournament. The final was postponed until Tuesday and results were not available at deadline. Tiffany Kogler was the winning pitcher and had two RBIs against Hastings while Katie Hauge had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs against St. Agnes. In a pair of SEC games last week, Forest Lake lost to Stillwater (8-1) and Park (11-0).
