FL's 'Parental' control stifles Hastings

Sometimes parents just wonít budge. Thatís exactly what Hastings found out last week.

Hastings got nowhere against Forest Lakeís Chris Parent as the senior pitcher allowed just three hits and struck out five of the final 10 batters he faced as the Rangers took a 4-1 victory on Thursday, April 25, at Schumacher Field.

The win improved Forest Lake to 5-0 and 4-0 in the Suburban East Conference while the loss dropped Hastings to 4-1 and 3-1.

ìChris was throwing all four of his pitches for strikes and any time you can do that, hitters donít know what to expect,î Forest Lake coach Brian Raabe said. ìBecause of that, Chris could throw whatever he wanted and the hitters were always guessing.î

Forest Lake staked Parent to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout by Alex Johnson and RBI singles by Luke Hagman and Lance Overson.

Parent gave up a run in the top of the third, but Forest Lake got it back in the bottom of the fourth when Doug Lange hit a leadoff double, took third on a passed ball and scored on Oversonís sacrifice fly.

In the top of the sixth, centerfielder Mark Miron saved Parent from giving up any more runs. With two outs and a runner at third, Miron charged a looping fly ball to center, dove and caught the ball in front of him at full extension.

Parent only need the help of catcher Lange in the seventh as he struck out the side, securing the victory and putting the Rangers in sole possession of first place in the SEC.

Parent struck out seven in the game and walked just one.

On Tuesday, April 23, Forest Lake beat Stillwater 5-4 despite being out-hit 8-2 by the Ponies.
ìIt was one of those classic games where pitching and defense wins,î Raabe said.

Hagman was the winning pitcher, allowing eight hits and four walks while striking out five in six innings.
