Posted: 5/8/02 Mayer's 83 paces FL at HastingsBerk Brown Each time the Forest Lake boys golf team takes to the course, a different golfer seemingly steps forward with a solid round. Now, if only they could all take that step forward at the same time. Charlie Mayer shot an 83 to lead the Rangers at the Hastings Invitational on Monday at the Hastings Country Club. In carding the low score for Forest Lake, Mayer became the fourth different team leader in as many competitions on the course. ìThat has kind of been the way it has gone,î Forest Lake coach Roger Cheyne said. ìWeíre struggling to get the scores down. We havenít been able to get three or four guys to play one of their better rounds on the same day.î Forest Lake finished with a score of 352 at Hastings to place 17th out of 20 teams. White Bear Lake was the team champion with a 304 while Ron Hamblin of Cretin-Derham Hall was medalist with a 2-under, 70. After Mayerís 83, Forest Lake was led by Phil Parzino (87), Matt Thorp (89), Nate Denny (93), Dan Svenkeson (96) and Joe Birkholz (101). On Friday, Forest Lake finished seventh at a Suburban East Conference meet at Oak Glenn in Stillwater. Stillwater took first with a 156. Forest Lake finished with a 173. Denny shot a 41 to lead Forest Lake while Svenkeson had a 42 and Parzino and Birkholz each had a 45. Jacob Svenkeson finished with a 47 and Noah Lawson shot a 48. On Thursday, May 2, the Rangers placed 30th out of 40 teams at the 36-hole Elk River Invitational, which was played at the Elk River Country Club and The Vintage. Dan Svenkesonís 155 led Forest Lake. He was followed by Mayer (156), Thorp (157), Lawson (158), Parzino (158), and Jacob Svenkeson (163). |
