Rangers get back to even

Thanks to its three-game winning streak, the Forest Lake softball team has made it back to even.

And more importantly, according to Forest Lake coach Sue Stennes-Rogness, the Rangers have made tremendous strides as a team.

Especially following a 3-1 win over Roseville on Wednesday, May 1, in eight innings which started Forest Lake on its current winning streak.

ìIt was the turning point for our season,î Stennes-Rogness said of the victory. ìWe had to get a victory at Roseville, especially with it being an extra-inning game. It was clearly the turning point in our season right there.

ìIf we hadnít gotten that win, it would have been hard to bounce back. I think it showed a lot about the character of the team ñ that itís starting to develop tenacity.î

Following its victory over Roseville, Forest Lake added wins over Hastings (3-0) on Friday and Woodbury (7-3) on Monday.

In those three games, pitcher Tiffany Kogler allowed a combined two earned runs over 22 innings while striking out 14 and allowing just one walk and 11 hits. Kogler also has been one of Forest Lakeís biggest offensive weapons in the streak, collecting four hits in the three games. Mary Sobiech also has gotten four hits in that span while Kacie Lingl had three RBIs.

Forest Lake faces stiff tests in Park and Stillwater this week before taking part in the Eastview tournament on Saturday.

The Rangers then host rival White Bear Lake at 7 p.m. on Monday and Stennes-Rogness said that will be a huge game.

ìWe need to pack the stands on Monday and get some emotional help in beating White Bear Lake,î she said.
