Posted: 11/20/02 Forest Lake Lions planning Ice Golf TourneyA golf tournament on ice is now in the planning stages for Forest Lake this winter. The Forest Lake Lions will sponsor its first Ice Golf Tournament on First Lake here on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003. The golf outing happens the day after the Hopkins Jaycees Golden Rainbow Ice Fishing Contest on Saturday, Feb. 1. The Lions are planning to have four nine-hole golf courses for the tournament. Four first place prizes of $1000 for each of the four courses will be awarded. Tee times will be offered between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the four-person teams. Tournament age starts at age 18. The cost of the tournament is an entry donation of $50 per golfer. The donation includes nine holes of ice golf, food and drink tickets. The Lions will serve a food buffet starting at 10 a.m. Golfers are asked to bring their own clubs. The Lions will provide the tennis balls for the winter course on ice. Along with individual registrations, the Lions are also seeking sponsorship packages for teams and advertising. For players, advance registration will be required, so early sign up is recommended to ensure a spot and a tee time. For golfers with young children, an indoor arcade with kids games will be available. Fire and police departments teams are also being sought. For teams that enter teams, a traveling trophy will be presented to the top department. In the event of bad weather, the alternate weather date is Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003.
