Veteran's Day programs set in area

Veterans will be the guests of honor at a number of area programs taking place this Sunday and Monday.

The observances are in keeping with the national observance of Veteranís Day on Nov. 11 which pays honor to the armistice that brought World War I to an end.

Forest Lakeís annual Veteranís Day salute will have a new format this year. A 10 a.m. program is planned on Monday, Nov. 11 at VFW Post 4210, 556 SW 12th St.

The program is jointly sponsored by Post 4210 and American Legion Post 225 of Forest Lake.

The public is welcome to attend the VFW program. Refreshments will be served. A brief program is planned, said Post 4210 Commander Bob Harris.

Displays from the 302nd Traveling Military Museum from Fort Snelling will be at Post 4210 for part of the morning and also on display at Forest Lake High School on Monday, Harris said.

Also on Monday, veterans will be honored at Linwood Elementary School with its annual Veteranís Day Recognition Program.

Grade 5 students will open the day with a parking lot flag raising ceremony at 9:30 a.m. At 9:45 a.m., Grade 4 students will lead a recognition program for all area veterans in the school gymnasium.

All area veterans are welcome to attend the Linwood program on Monday.

For Marines, American Legion Post 225, 355 W. Broadway Ave., will host the annual Marine Corps Birthday Party at 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 10 in Hall D of the Legion Post.

All area Marines are invited to the party. Light refreshments will be served.
