Tschida requests recount in FL race for mayor

A tight margin in the Forest Lake mayorís race has resulted in a request for recount. Dick Tschida came up just 21 votes short of ousting incumbent Mayor Ray Daninger in the November 5 election.

Tschida, who received 2616 votes compared to Daningerís 2637 votes, requested the recount Wednesday, Nov. 6. City Clerk Chantal Doriott said counting will be done by city staff with a quorum of council members present.

Recount day is tentatively set for Thursday, Nov. 14 at city hall. Open to the public, the count is expected to begin at 9 a.m.

This election had high voter turn-out, reported City Administrator Chip Robinson. On average, there was about 75 percent turn-out of registered voters in the city. Robinson added turn-out was a record state wide for a non-presidential election.

The city council met in special session at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6 as the election canvassing board and voted unanimously to certify the results of the Nov. 5 election.
