Posted: 9/12/02 Swanson, Sivarajah advance in District 6 Anoka County Board primaryDick Swanson and Rhonda Sivarajah survived the Sept. 10 primary in the Sixth District Anoka County Board election. Nine candidates were entered in the primary. Swanson, a Blaine councilman and longtime Minnesota Department of Transportation employee, led the field with 659 votes or 23.93 percent. Sivarajah, Lino Lakes, an Anoka County employee on leave during the election, was second with 523 votes or 18.99 percent. Anoka County election officials reported a total of 2754 votes cast in the primary election. Other totals in the county board primary are as follows: ïKim Sullivan, 415; ïHoward Juni, 360; ïMary Capra, 278; ïDon Anderson, 191; ïLinda Hurtley, 153; ïKevin Ryan, 89; and ïKirk Corson, 86. In the Anoka County Sheriffís primary, current Sheriff Bruce Andersohn and Lino Lakes Chief of Police Dave Pecchia will advance to the Nov.l 5 general election ballot. Andersohn, who was appointed to the position this spring, won the primary with 13,043 votes or 49.73 percent. Pecchia was second with 10,325 votes or 39.37 percent. John A. France was third with 2860 votes or 10.90 percent. In two other county board primary tests, incumbent Margaret Langfield and Mark D. Johnson move on District Three. In District, Dick Lang, the current representative for Linwood and Columbus townships, won a three-candidate field. Jolynn Erickson also moves on to the November ballot. In Columbus Township, 202 ballots were cast. Sivarajah was the top vote getter with 59 while Swanson collected 48 votes. Other totals are: Sullivan, 32; Juni, 15; Anderson, 15; Capra, 11; Ryan, 8; Corson, 8; and Hurtley, 6. In sheriffís primary, Andersohn picked up 105 votes while Pecchia received 71 and France 14. In Linwood Township, 303 ballots were cast in the primary with local resident Linda Hurtley leading the way with 114 votes. Swanson was second with 63 while Sivarajah was third with 43. Other Linwood total in the county board primary are: Linwood resident Ryan, 33; Capra, 17; Anderson, 12; Sullivan, 9; Juni, 8; and Corson, 4. In the sheriffís primary, Linwood residents favored Andersohn over Pecchia by a 186 to 92 margin while France picked up 23 votes. |
