Johnson advance in Chisago County Attorney primary electionTimothy Ryan and Katherine Johnson were the victors in the Chisago County primary election for county attorney on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Five candidates were in the field for the four-year term where there is no incumbent. Ryan, a Lindstrom attorney who came close to upsetting James Reutter in 1998, won the primary with 1044 votes. Johnson was second with 884 votes. Tim Peterson finished third with 816 votes. Stoney Hiljus was fourth with 660 and Jesse Johnson was fifth with 207. In the city of Wyoming, Katherine Johnson was the victor with 43 votes, one more than Ryanís 42. Hiljus had 33, Peterson, 8, and Jesse Johnson, 8. In Wyoming Township, Ryan led the way with 98 votes while Katherine Johnson had 67. Tim Peterson was third with 61 followed by Hiljus with 38 and Jesse Johnson with 24. Ryan had strong showings in Lindstrom where he topped Johnson, 154-62, and in Chisago City, where he defeated his closest rival by 122-55. In the House District 17B DFL primary, Monica Abress, the endorsed candidate, defeated DFL challenger George McMahon, 1228 to 876. Abress won in Wyoming Township with 111 votes while McMahon had 75. In the city of Wyoming, McMahon led Abress, 54-42. In the two Chisago County Board primary tests, District 2 incumbent Bob Vande kamp moves on to the Nov. 5 ballot, but not District 1 incumbent Tom Delaney. Delaney was third in the contest. Brian Greene won the primary with 364 votes while Lora Walker was second with 338. Both move on. Delaney was the third man out with 278 votes. In District 2, Rick Olseen was the victor with 297 votes, one better than Vande kampís 296. Richard Greene was eliminated. He had 250 votes. |
