Forest Lake made sure last week that there would be no repeat of last yearís slow start on the volleyball court.

The Rangers swept both Mounds View and Woodbury in a pair of Suburban East Conference matches on Tuesday, Aug. 27, and Wednesday, Aug, 28, respectively.

While Forest Lake coach Sherri Alm said the Rangers played well in their first two matches, she was excited about the fact her squad didnít drop a game without playing the perfect match.
ìIt wasnít like we were at our peak by any means,î Alm said. ìBut, we have so many options and the girls have been working hard because they want those (playing time) spots.

ìThe girls have had great attitudes and we need those because you never know when youíre going to get your shot and you certainly play better when you have a positive attitude.î

Things were almost all positive in the season-opening 15-11, 15-5, 15-1 win over Mounds View.

After the Rangers took a 10-2 lead in the first game, Mounds View ran off six straight points and eventually pulled within 11-10 before the Rangers won.

For the match, Forest Lake served at 88 percent. Cortney Marr was 22 for 23 with 18 points and six aces while Jamie Falck was 14 for 14 with 10 points and three aces.

Tara Kent led the Rangers with 10 kills in the match with a .750 efficiency. Katie Thompson finished with seven kills and Molly Thompson had six.

A day later, Forest Lake defeated Woodbury 15-11, 16-14, 15-4. The Rangers trailed 7-0 in the second game before rallying to take the game.

Falck was 12 for 12 serving for the Rangers while Molly Thompson had 15 points and Alison McCurdy added 11. Molly and Katie Thompson each had a team-high 10 kills and Mary Sobiech added nine. Kent had four blocks and Molly Thompson added three.

Marr led the Rangers with 15 digs against the Royals while McCurdy had 14 and Falck had 10.
