Posted: 9/4/02 Morehead appointed to school boardKaren Morehead is back. Back as back on the ISD 831 School Board. Morehead was appointed to a vacant seat on the school board Tuesday night, collecting a unanimous 5-0 vote of support by the five members attending the regular meeting. She replaces Clyde Boyer who resigned on June 30 because of a job relocation to Florida. The school board used July and August to solicit applicants for the spot and conduct interviews. Morehead was one of 10 district residents who sought the position. Six were interviewed by the board last month. The Forest Lake woman has spent just under eight years on the board and won election twice at the ballot box. She will take office on Monday, Sept., 16. ģIt was very difficult to overlook a person like Karen who has been so dedicated,ī said Board President Bill Bresin. Board members agreed the decision to name a successor to Boyer was difficult and praised the field of applicants. ģGetting to six (candidates) was difficult,ī said board member Susan Novak. Board member Rebecca Otto, who supported Morehead, said she hoped the pool of applicants would consider running for election in 2003, the next regular election date. Otto, who is a candidate for the Minnesota House of Representatives in south Washington County, would be forced to resign from the school board if she is elected in November. Should those events unfold, the board could be faced with another appointment decision in early 2003. Otto was elected to the school board in November of 2001 and is serving a four-year term. In the unanimous vote of support, members Bresin, Novak, Jody Krebs, Dean Barr and Otto were in full agreement. Member Joe Grafft was absent on Tuesday. |
