Election details for Forest Lake

Jessica Foster
Staff Writer

When residents of Forest Lake go to cast their vote in the primary election Tuesday, Sept. 10, they may be voting at a new polling place.

The Forest Lake city council approved the designation of precincts and polling places at an April city council meeting. However, due to the Memorial Day weekend fire at Hosanna Lutheran Church, there have been some changes.

The first two precincts remain the same with precinct 1 voting at city hall and precinct 2 voting at St. Peterís Catholic Church.

The bulk of residents voting at Hosanna Lutheran Church in the past have been divided in half. Voters in precinct 4 now will vote at Forest Hills United Methodist Church. Those living on the northeast side of Third Lake now will be part of the third precinct and vote at Faith Lutheran Church.

Precinct 5, which includes residents south of TH-97 and east of US-61, is at School District 831 office building.

Most residents have received new voterís registration cards in the mail. Some city residents will be receiving letters from the city this week about polling places.

Council filings

Three residents have filed for mayor. Filers include incumbent Ray Daninger who is challenged by councilman Terry Smith and former Forest Lake Town Board Supervisor Richard Tschida.

There are two seats open on the council. Incumbent Judy Bull has filed to retain her seat. Since Smith is running for mayor he cannot run for council. Resident Marco Swanson also has filed to serve on the city council.

Filing for mayor and two council seats remain open until 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 10. Candidates must be at least 18-years-old, a resident of the city for 30 days preceding the general election, eligible to vote and not filing for any other office.

For more information on filing for election, call city hall at 651-464-3550.
