Posted: 9/4/02 Linwood reviews road issuesAlice Pickering Most business at the Linwood Board meeting, Tuesday, Aug. 27, was routine. Supervisor Marvin Mc-Cormick, chair of the road and bridge commission, updated the board about township projects. Planning is completed on 225th Ave. and actual work should begin around Sept. 15, with completion expected in mid-October. The commission elected to leave 207th Ave. as it is. Plans for the improvements on Feather St. and 227th Ave. are not done yet. Residents living on these streets are concerned about losing trees as a result of road improvements and are also concerned about excessive speeds through the area. There is no room for ditches along the road, so trees should not be affected. Before Cora Road can be officially vacated by the township, a new road must be built along the north ends of all properties affected. A survey is to be completed and brush cleared this winter, so actual road construction can begin in the spring. The road crews will continue to follow the mower with another slow-moving vehicle as a safety measure. The township mowers work along the roadway and not in the ditches, so the second vehicle is important. Attorney Gerald Randall is working on language to guarantee Glen Barrott access to property, just west of the Linwood Community and School Forest. Randall is also in contact with Dave and Jenni Westergren, residents living along 237th Ave. The Westergrens want assurances that the zoning applying to their 20 acre parcel remains the same, even though some land is being sacrificed for the easements to improve the road. It is the intent of the board that the zoning remains the same. The board approved the purchase of a club-cab truck for multi-purpose township use. It has been determined that Building Department fund is an acceptable source of funds for this purchase, since the building inspector will also be using the vehicle. |
