Posted: 4/16/03 Swanson medals, Doriott surprisesBerk Brown Forest Lake girls golf coach Bill Loushine got a pleasant surprise in the Rangers first meet of the season on Monday. First-year golfer Jen Doriott turned in the Rangersí second-best score at Midland Hills as the junior shot a 52 in her first varsity meet to help Forest Lake to a fifth-place finish as a team. Senior Krista Swanson earned medalist honors for the Rangers by firing a 2-over-par 39. The University of Montana recruit and the No. 1 ranked golfer in the Metro area had a round of four pars, four bogies and an eagle. As a team, Forest Lake finished with a score of 201. Woodbury (186) edged White Bear Lake (187) for the team title. Stillwater finished third with a 196, followed by Roseville (198), the Rangers, Mounds View (203), Hastings (205) and Park (223). Senior Christie Brink finished the round with a 53 for the Rangers while senior Laura Henry and sophomore Sarah Berger each turned in a 57 on a windy day with extremely fast and hard greens, according to Loushine. Forest Lake will likely face difficult weather conditions its next time on the course. The Rangers next compete today (Thursday) at Hastings and the weather forecast calls for highs around 40 with strong winds and a 50-percent chance of snow. Forest Lake hosts its invitational on Monday, May 5 at Forest Hills. |
