Posted: 4/2/03 Gymnasts earn year-end awardsBerk Brown Rachel Turry ñ who qualified for her second straight state gymnastics meet this year ñ cleaned house during the teamís year-end awards banquet recently. In all this year, Turry was named All Suburban East Conference, All Section 4AA and All State while also being recognized with a Distinguished Academic Achievement Award, Event Leadership Award for both bars and beam and she also was named the Most Valuable Gymnast. Other team awards included: Jamie Essen and Brianna Hubbard were each honorable mention All-SEC and honorable mention All-State. Those earning All-Section Academic Awards were: Katie Clark, Cori Kettler, Katie Thomas and Katie Martin. Those earning the Distinguished Academic Achievement Award were: Christy Anderson, Katie Bolenbaugh, Sarah Chaussee, Betsy Garritsen, Heather Jackson, Amanda Saari, Allison Mericle, Thomas, Turry, Katie Clark, Essen, Martin, Kelsey Callahan, Meredith Dunaski, Becky Erdos and Kettler. Earning the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award were: Emily Stigall, Katie Flohr, Nicole Zastrow, Marianne Dunaski, Margaret Mattison, Shawna McNamara, Danielle Schminkey and Jessica Swenson. Those earning the Most Improved Awards in events were: Mandi Pringle on vault, Martin on bars, Garritsen on beam and Becker, McNamara and Tasha Tyler on floor. Stigall was given the Event Leadership Award for vault while Essen received the same honor for floor and Hubbard for all-around. McNamara was named the Most Promising JV Gymnast. Captains for the 2003-04 season also were named, and they are: Turry, Thomas and Kelly Waldoch. |
