Pinewood Derby District Championship is Saturday in FL

Pinewood Derby District Championship is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday April 5th at the Maroon and Gold Arena, 832 SW 4th Street, Forest Lake.

The event is hosted by Packs 731/733 and their Charter Partners: VFW Post 4210 and Forest Lake Lions Club.

Each spring, Cub Scouts assemble cars to compete in Pinewood Derby races within their Cub Scout Dens and local Packs.

The culmination of these contests is the District Pinewood Derby where the top 15 finishers from each Pack, three from each grade are invited to participate in the ultimate race-off.

Defending Champs are enjoying the pride and perks of being the Sunrise River District champion and admiring his hard earned prize for winning the Cub Scout District Pinewood Derbyís biggest prize.

This years sponsors are: Faith Lutheran Church, Hosanna Lutheran Church, Farmerís Insurance, Billís Auto Body, Elusive Image Photography, Vast Innovations, Blacksmith Auto Body, Danís Towing & Recovery, Novakís Pontiac Buick GMC.

This year will be a family event for the entire community. A representative from the Sport Car Club of America will be on hand, displaying his ProRally WRX.

There will be food (Krispy Kreams, sloppy joes, pizza, etc.), demonstrations, and prizes.

For patch collectors, there will be patches to commemorate the 50 years of the Pinewood Derby, 50 years of Tomahawk Camp, 50 years of Indianhead Council and Sunrise River District.

Sunrise River District serves youth in North Branch, Scandia, Shafer, Stacy, Webster, Lindstrom, Wyoming, Almelund, Center City, Chisago City, Taylor Falls, Harris, Lino Lakes, Linwood, Rush City, and Forest Lake. Cub scouting is for boys from 1st grade (Tiger Cubs) through 5th grade (Webelos II).

Information and leaders will be available to talk to families about the program and their scouting experience.

The community will come to view the event and see the young racers show their stuff.
