Boys swimming team hands out awards

There were many things to celebrate for the Forest Lake boys swimming and diving team at its year-end banquet recently.

Forest Lake had its most successful season in the pool in several years this season, winning and invitational title and placing fourth in the Suburban East Conference standings.

Forest Lake also sent a pair of divers ñÝSan Chaussee and Ben Johnson ñÝto the state meet, capping its season in impressive fashion.

And its end-of-year banquet, head coach Dick Waskey and diving coach Deb Welch handed out several awards.

Among the swimmers, Chris Duff was named Hardest Worker while Mark Sandager was named Most Improved. Jeff Sandager was named Most Valuable and the Coaches Award went to Scott Schulz.

Among divers, Brian Welch was named Hardest Worker while Dillon Hudalla was named Most Improved and Welch earned Most Valuable recognition.

Among the junior varsity swimmers, Peter Sandager was named Most Likely to Succeed.
He also was awarded with the Hardest Worker and Rookie of the Year awards. the Most Improved honor among junior varsity swimmers went to Tony Johnson.

For the team as a whole, Scott Thomas was named Most Inspirational Team Member.
All-Suburban East Conference first team awards were given to Welch and Chaussee while All-SEC honorable mention was received by Jeff Sandager, Sam Gort and John Fahnhorst.
Captains for the 2003-2004 season also were selected and announced at the banquet. Captains for next year will be: Welch, Duff, Jeff Sandager and Thomas.

This year, the Rangers also earned the Section Academic Award for their work in the classroom and Deb Welch was given the Section Diving Coach of the Year honor.
