MACA honors WC's Jim Schug

Washington County Administrator Jim Schug received the Joe Reis Excellence in County Management Award at the Dec. 8 meeting of the Minnesota Association of County Administrators at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis. Schug was selected to receive the award based on his active involvement at the county, state, and national levels. Schug currently serves as the treasurer for MACA. ěThere are many MACA members who are deserving of this award, but Jim always stood out in my mind,î said MACA President Janice Fransen, Jackson County Coordinator, Jackson. ěHe has set an example for all administrators through his leadership and active involvement at the state level. He is highly respected and admired by his peers.î The award, established in 1999, is named for Joe Reis, a former Scott County administrator, who was a charter member of MACA and served as the organizationís first president from 1980-1981. Schug was hired as the Washington County Community Services Director on April 14, 1986, and was appointed county administrator on April 24, 1994. Prior to 1986, he was employed as a social worker in Crow Wing County and, later, as welfare director and personnel coordinator for Redwood County.
