Sewer capacity for area under study

The Metropolitan Council will conduct a public information meeting this month to discuss the early stages of planning now under way for increasing regional sewer capacity to accommodate future projected growth in Forest Lake, Hugo, Columbus Township, Centerville, Lino Lakes, White Bear Township and White Bear Lake. The information meeting will be from 6:30-8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17, in the Oneka Room at Hugo City Hall, 14669 Fitzgerald Ave. N. Staff from Metropolitan Council Environmental Services, a division of the MC, will discuss plans for constructing a new interceptor sewer pipe to serve this portion of the northeast metro area. MCES anticipates project planning will be completed in 2005, detailed design will be completed in 2006, and construction will take place in 2007 through 2010. MCES staff also will discuss on-going efforts with communities to reduce the inflow and infiltration of clear water into local and regional sewer pipes, which reduces the capacity to convey wastewater during heavy rainfalls. Citizens are encouraged to attend the meeting and offer questions and comments.
