FL Safe & Sober patrols continue

Forest Lake Police Department officers, in partnership with the Minnesota State Patrol and the Washington County Sheriffís Office, will continue to run Safe & Sober patrols this month. Sgt. Greg Weiss said area police will concentrate on impaired driving throughout the holiday season. Last month saw officers in Forest Lake team with the Forest Lake Police Explorers Post 515 in a seat belt saturation patrol. Members of the Explorers Post visually survey 100 vehicles on Nov. 17 at the intersection of SW 12th St. and 11th Ave. A total of 50 percent of the motorists were not wearing seat belts, Weiss said. Officers followed with 12 hours of extra patrol on Nov. 20, Nov. 24 and Nov. 26. During the extra patrol, 25 vehicles were stopped for traffic violations. Seven citations were written, Weiss said, with two of the tickets for seat belt violations. The goal of the Safe & Sober patrols throughout December will be to target impaired drivers and remove them from the roadways during a peak travel time, Weiss said.
