Property taxes in Forest Lake School District 831 will go down overall next year.The school board Monday night certified its 2003 tax levy at $12,607,628 or 1.2 percent lower than the tax levy from 2002. The 2003 levy is for taxes to be collected in 2004. The new levy marks a reduction of $152,688 over the amount of property taxes levied last year.
The 2002 property tax levy in ISD 831 was $12,760,316.
The levy for taxes collected in 2004 includes $7.59 million for general fund use, $604,784 for the community service fund and $4.4 million for district debt service. The debt service is for voter-approved debt obligations.
The school board voted 5-0 with two members absent Monday to ratify the new tax levy. Board approval followed a budget and tax hearing attended by four district residents on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
