Sports EditorThe Forest Lake boys hockey team went on the road this week hoping to avenge a 5-3 loss to Grand Rapids the previous weekend.
The Rangers had what seemed to be a 3-2 lead headed into the third period when Grand Rapidsí scoring came alive and scored three unanswered goals to win the game 5-3.
Rangers senior goalie Dustin Carlson stopped 45 of the 50 grand Rapids shots, while goals came from Tyler Rife, Dan Guenther, and Don Mastel.
ìWe just didnít play three full periods of hockey,î Brandt said. ìI thought we had good moments, but we werenít consistent.î
The Rangers were to play host to Rochester Century on Tuesday, Dec. 9, but inclement weather caused the postponement of the game until Saturday, Feb. 21.
On Friday night, the Rangers played at Brainerd in a 3-1 losing effort.
ìI think we just got fabulous goaltending,î Brandt said. ìWe had our chances in the third period with four or five breakaways, but we didnít put the puck in the back of the net.î
Carlson stopped 42 of 45 Brainerd shots. The lone Rangers goal came from Robbie McCollum.
The next night, the Rangers fell to Alexandria 7-1.
ìI thought we played pretty good hockey through the first part of the third period,î Brandt said. ìWhat hurt was when we scored, they [Alexandria] scored 30-seconds later and took the wind out of our sails.î
Carlson stopped 40 of 47 Alexandria shots, for a two game total of 92 shots.
ìWe wasted three pretty good goaltending efforts,î Brandt said.
The Rangers next game is tonight against conference rival White Bear Lake at the Maroon and Gold Arena. Face off time is 7:30 p.m.
