The Forest Lake alpine ski team opened their season with a conference race against Mounds View, and an exhibition race against Blake at the same time.

The girls team narrowly beat Mounds View 28-27, and beat Blake 36-19. The boys lost to Mounds View 37-18, and lost to Blake 31-24.

ìI consider Mounds View to be one of the better teams in the state,î head alpine ski coach Jay Stadler said. ìMounds View is a tough team and they had a number of girls that could have placed and hurt us, but our girls held it together and pulled it off.î

Rachel Kissner lead the way for the Rangers, finishing with a combined time of 49.39. The separate run times were 24.74, and 24.75. Amanda Connelley was another top finisher for the Rangers with her time of 50.61.

Only having one skier with sectional experience, Stadler sees the boys team in a bit of a rebuilding mode, but still a competitive team.

Captain Justin Knowltonís combined time of 39.88 was the fastest time for the Rangers against Mounds View, followed by Eric Stolbergís combined time of 40.47. The Rangers other captain, Matt Keller finished with a combined time of 42.03.

Only having one skier with sectional experience, Stadler sees the boys team in a bit of a rebuilding mode, but still a competitive team.

ìI was down to nine guys,î Stadler said. ìSome were sick and some had other activities going on, but I thought the boys skied very well. I had to ski a couple of guys who had never raced before so I was happy with the performance they gave me.î

The Rangers next race is today at Hastings at 4:30 p.m.

ìItís hard for me to scout Hasting because they are so far away,î Stadler said. ìBut in the past we have done well against them.î
