Posted: 2/12/03 Flyaways compete at state championshipsFlyaways Gymnastics Training Center of Forest Lake recently participated in the 2002 Minnesota State Gymnastics Championship for Compulsory levels 5 and 6 of the USA Junior Olympic program. Flyaways Level 5 team placed fourth with a team score of 106.65 out of 26 teams represented from clubs throughout the state of Minnesota. Scoring for the team on vault were: Sophia Kneen (8.575), Savanna Stendahl (8.525), Cassie Peltier and Tara Zimmerman (8.3). On the uneven bars were: Alana Schoen (9.05), Kneen (9.025), and Alex Thomsen (8.925). On balance beam were Zimmerman (9.10), Schoen (9.05), and Brittany Burrington (9.05). Scoring on floor were: Schoen (9.15), Peltier (9.05) and Erin Liljedahl (8.85). The Level 6 team was inched out the first-place spot by only .15 of a point. They placed second with a team score of 106.375. There were 21 teams in the competition. Scoring for the Flyaways team on vault were: Kiki Parenteau (8.90), Julia Neutkens (8.75), Carly Lentz (8.60) and Samantha Opsahl (8.60). On uneven bars, scorers were: Parenteau (9.10), Rachel Maxwell (8.50), and Julia Hurtley (8.45). On the balance beam, Flyaways pulled scores from: Parenteau (9.30), Opsahl (8.95), and Taylor Brett (8.925). Scoring for the Flyaways team on floor exercise were: Tara Kettler (9.05), Parenteau (8.95) and Maxwell (8.925). Parenteau was a bright spot in the team line-up, scoring on all four events and placing first on vault, bars, beam and in the all-around, scoring a 36.25. Kiki also placed second on floor exercise in the 8-9 age group. Kayla Suess also competed in the 8-9 age group and placed third on bars (8.40), 10th on vault (8.0), eighth on beam (8.425) and seventh in all-around (32.775). Competing for the Flyaways in the age 10 group were Julia Hurtley, Kettler and Brett. Hurtley placed fifth on bars (8.425), 10th on floor (8.75) and fourth in all-around (34.274). Kettler placed second on floor (9.05), eighth on beam (8.90) and sixth in the all-around (33.85). Brett was sixth on vault (8.575), seventh on beam (8.925) and eighth in all-around (33.775). Representing the Flyaways in the age 11 group was Opsahl and Courtney Klein. Opsahl placed fifth on vault (8.60), seventh on beam (8.95), 10th on floor (8.575), and fifth in all-around (33.875). Klein placed sixth on bars (8.05). Stephanie Boettcher was the only athlete from Flyaways in the age 12 group and she placed eighth on bars (7.85) and in the all-around scoring (33.15). Competing for the Flyaways in the age 13 group were: Rachel Maxwell, Julia Neutkens, Jessica Lundeen and Chelsea Fitzmorris. Maxwell placed first on bars (8.50), ninth on vault (8.475), eighth on beam (8.675), third on floor (8.925), and second in the all-around (34.575). Nuetkens placed second on vault (8.75), sixth on bars (8.15), and fifth in all-around (33.875). Lundeen placed fifth on bars (8.225), and 10th in all-around (32.95). Carly Lentz represented Flyaways in the age 14-15 group. She was fifth on vault (8.6), fourth on bars (8.40), eighth on beam (8.525), fourth on floor (8.55) and third in the all-around (34.075). |
