Posted: 2/5/03 Wyoming Township to review comp planWyoming Township residents can have a say in the future of their community. The townshipís planning commission is hosting a joint public hearing with the town board of supervisors 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18 at Maranatha Assembly of God Church, 24799 Forest Blvd. The plan, an update of the townshipís 1990 comprehensive plan, is intended to be a reflection of what is wanted by township officials, residents and other agencies and departments of county government and neighboring communities. The township conducted a survey in 1996 to gauge the attitudes of the public and town officials, measured by geographic region and demographic factors. The survey findings support the recommendations and policies throughout the plan. In 1998, the town board directed the planning commission to undertake the plan update with the technical assistance of the planning and zoning department. The planning department met regularly throughout the planning period and also conducted seven citizen visioning meetings at the outset to seek public input on issues, to review and discuss information assembled by staff and to form the vision for the township in the form of goals and policies. The findings and conclusions were brought together until an idealized picture, or vision, of Wyoming Townshipís future emerged. Members of the public who want to speak at the hearing will be asked to register before the meeting starts. ìThis will ensure that comments are taken in an orderly manner, and will also help the planning commission determine if a time limit will need to be imposed to guarantee everyone who desires to speak will have a chance to do so,î said Planning and Zoning Administrator Fred Weck. ìThe registration is not meant to prevent those from speaking who wish to respond to remarks that have been made. Rebuttals will be permitted when the registered speakers have finished,î he said. A presentation will be made by the planning commission at the start of the public hearing to explain the comprehensive plan to the public. Following the presentation, any written comments that have been submitted will be read. Then, those who have registered will be able to speak to the planning commission. If all of the public comments cannot be heard at the February 18 meeting, the hearing will be continued to a later date. Meetings The Wyoming Township board of supervisors regularly meets at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Wyoming Town Hall. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11. |
