Posted: 1/15/03 Rangers come up big late in gamesBerk Brown Sometimes itís more important how you finish than how you start. The Forest Lake boys basketball team proved that last week. Trailing at halftime in both games, the Rangers were able to use strong second-half ñ and especially fourth quarter ñ performances to win a pair of Suburban East Conference games last week. Forest Lake (8-3) trailed by as many as 10 in the second quarter against Mounds View on Tuesday, Jan. 7, before rallying for a 59-51 victory. The Rangers then fell behind 7-0 to start the game on Friday against Park and trailed by a point entering the fourth quarter before taking a 55-52 win over the Wolfpack. In the win over Park, Tom Frericks ñÝwho made every shot he took in the game ñ made a 3-pointer late in the game to put Forest Lake up 54-50. Lucas Anderson added a free throw with six seconds left to secure the three-point win. Joey Ryan finished the game with 15 points while Frericks had 13 and Lance Overson added 12. In the win over Mounds View, the Rangers outscored the Mustangs 14-4 in the third quarter to help fuel the second-half rally. ìThatís as well a half of basketball as this group of guys has played,î Forest Lake coach Chuck Gunderson said of the final 16 minutes. Ryan had 22 points in the game for the Rangers while Overson had 15 points and 10 rebounds. |
