Gymnasts fall to Roseville

Forest Lakeís gymnastics performance was good but not good enough to beat Roseville last week.

Forest Lake finished the meet with 23 personal-best scores but still came up short in suffering a 136.65-130.90 loss to the Raiders on Thursday, Jan. 9.

ìWe have some things to celebrate and much to work on,î Forest Lake coach Nancy Ellias said.

ìGoing into the meet, I knew Roseville had higher scores than we did, but I also knew it would or could be a close meet. If we have our best meet of the season and hit everything, we have the potential, I think, to beat Roseville, Stillwater and maybe White Bear Lake.î

Rachel Turry, a state qualifier last year, dominated competition on bars for the Rangers, taking first with a score of 9.1. She was the only competitor in the meet to score a 9.0 or higher on both bar routines.

Forest Lakeís other two top-three finishers were Brianna Hubbard and Jamie Essen.
Hubbard placed third on beam with an 8.8 while Essen was third on floor with an 8.625.

In the junior varsity portion of the meet, Roseville defeated the Rangers 124.8-120.0.

Forest Lakeís best junior varsity event was the vault, where four Rangers earned places.
Danielle Schminkey and Karine Becker each tied for first for the Rangers with a score of 8.2 while Tasha Tyler and Katie Martin each tied for third with an 8.15.

Christy Anderson was third on beam for the Rangers with an 8.0.

Forest Lake will next host Stillwater at 6:30 p.m. today (Thursday) in its annual Parentís Night.
