Alpine ski
ï The Forest Lake boys alpine ski team split a pair of duals it had on Tuesday, Jan. 7, while the girls team dropped both duals by close scores.

The boys team defeated Park and lost to Woodbury in competition held at Afton. The girls suffered a 28-27 loss to Park and a 30-25 loss to Woodbury.

ï The Forest Lake girls hockey team dropped to 3-15 on the season with a pair of losses last week.

Maple Grove posted a 3-0 victory over the Rangers on Tuesday, Jan. 7. Stillwater then defeated Forest Lake 7-1 on Saturday at Maroon and Gold Arena.

In the loss to Maple Grove, Kelsie Bakken had 23 saves for the Rangers. Maple Grove finished the game with a 26-7 advantage in shots on goal.

In the loss to Stillwater, the Ponies scored five times in the opening period to take control of the game. Forest Lakeís only goal came from Nicki Souter on an assist from Anna Johnson in the second period which cut Stillwaterís lead to 6-1.

Bakken had 20 saves in slightly more than two periods of goaltending. Kim Fredricks stopped both shots she saw in the final 14 minutes of the game.

Boys swimming
ï The Forest Lake boys swimming and diving team continued its successful ways on Saturday, placing third at the nine-team Cambridge-Isanti Invitational.

Duluth East won the meet with a score of 369, followed by Faribault with 365 and the Rangers with 309.

Brian Welch and Sam Gort turned in the best individual performances for the Rangers in the meet.

Welch placed fourth in diving with a score of 349.45 while Gort took fourth place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:34.75.

Fifth-place finishes were turned in by John Fahnhorst in the 100 backstroke, Grant Robinson in the 100 breaststroke, and the Rangersí 400 freestyle relay team of Jake Morrison, James Kassel, Brent Cowen and Zack Clasen.

Forest Lakeís 200 medley relay team of John Fahnhorst, Grant Robinson, Cory Docken and Jeff Sandager was sixth , as was diver Sam Chaussee, 100 freestyler Sandager, Mark Anderson in the 500 freestyle and Brian Richards in the 100 breaststroke.

On Thursday, Jan. 9, Elk River defeated Forest Lake 101-80 in a dual.

Forest Lake divers Welch, Chaussee and Dillion Hudalla swept the top three spots.
