Park Place on track for September opening

A mild start to the winter of 2002-2003 has allowed construction to proceed rapidly on Park Place, the downtown redevelopment project that will bring a major change to Forest Lake.

The rise of the two cement block towers has been a clear indication of the progress. But when steel arrives on Jan. 20, more significant changes will begin to happen, said Brad VerBout, a partner in the development with Gene Happe and Mark Finnemann.

VerBout said the 45,000-square-foot development is anticipating a Sept. 1 opening. Park Place will include 27,000 square feet of retail and office space designed over the three-story structure.

The twin towers of the complex on US-61 will house stairwells and the building elevator.

The project will also include 18,000 square feet of residential condominiums with lake views on the second and third floors. Underground parking is planned.

ìWe have more people wanting to get in than we have space,î VerBout said last week. He is pleased by the early interest in the complex.

Eight two-bedroom condominiums will be constructed. The 1900-square-foot units will sell for $300,000, he said.

VerBout said lease and purchase negotiations continue for all phases of the development.

VerBout will move his business, VerBout Tax and Financial Services to a 1500 square foot office in Park Place.

Forest Lake Embroidery is also committed to occupy 2500 square feet in the complex, VerBout said.
