Rebecca Otto will make 2nd bid for House 52B

The appointment of Rep. Mark Holsten as deputy commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has opened a second door for DFL candidate Rebecca Otto. Otto, 39, of May Township, has announced she will run in the special election set for Feb. 11. Otto is in her second year of service on the ISD 831 School Board in Forest Lake. Otto ran for the House District 52B seat last fall and was defeated by Holsten, a Republican. The need for a new election surfaced last Friday when Gov. Tim Pawlenty named Rep. Holsten to the second-in-command post at the DNR. House District 52B covers a small area of ISD 831 in the Scandia and May township areas. A primary election would take place on Tuesday, Jan. 28, if necessary. A one-day filing period for candidates was Tuesday, Jan. 21.
