No. 10 Rangers still perfect in SEC play

At the end of last season, Forest Lake coach Chuck Gunderson said he felt like some of his teamís hardships would pay off during the 2002-03 season.

Gunderson may be no Miss Cleo, but itís looking like that prediction was right on the money.

Forest Lake posted narrow wins over a pair of Suburban East Conference foes last week to improve to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in the SEC. The Rangers also are on a four game winning streak and have won 10 of their last 12.

That success helped land the Rangers in the No. 10 spot of the Minneapolis Star-Tribuneís AAAA rankings this week.

Forest Lake defeated Roseville 51-46 on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and then took a 54-52 victory over Stillwater on Friday.

Forest Lakeís success in its last two games can be directly tied to its physical play despite being undersized.

In both victories last week, the Rangers made more free throws ñ 16 and 17, respectively ñ than Roseville (15) and Stillwater (13) attempted in the game.

Forest Lake also found itself winning the battle inside for rebounds and the Rangers had an advantage on the glass of 27-14 against Roseville and 27-21 against Stillwater.

In the 51-46 victory over Roseville, Joey Ryan scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots for the Rangers while Lance Overson added 16 points, nine rebounds and a pair of assists.

In the two-point win over Stillwater, Forest Lake got 22 points and 10 rebounds from Ryan while Lucas Anderson added eight points and Kevin Keto had eight rebounds.

On Friday, Forest Lake hosts Woodbury at 7:30 p.m. in a meeting between the top two teams in the Suburban East Conference.
