Forest Lake rebounds by beating Hastings

The Forest Lake boys hockey team ended its longest victory drought of the season on Saturday.

Forest Lake, after going 0-2-1 in its last three contests, took a 3-1 win over Hastings on Saturday at Maroon and Gold Arena.

The win boosted Forest Lake to a record of 10-6-1 overall and 4-2-1 in Suburban East Conference play.

Matt Stendahl broke open a scoreless game in the final minutes of the first period to give the Rangers a lead they would never relinquish.

Stendahl scored on an assist from Clint Blum at the 13:20 mark of the first period to put the Rangers up 1-0.

In the second period, Forest Lake goalie Brett Sawyer stopped all 12 of Hastingsí shots on goals to help the Rangers maintain their one-goal advantage.

In the third period, Scooter Brandt scored on an assist from Mitch Hanson at the 8:44 mark to push the Forest Lake lead to 2-0.

Hastingsí Dan Yost cut the lead to 2-1 at the 11:18 mark of the final period with an even-strength goal, but the Rangers were able to secure the victory when Clint Blum scored on assists from Cory Minke and Stendahl at the 11:56 mark.

Sawyer finished the game with 25 saves for the Rangers.

On Thursday, Jan. 16, Roseville defeated the Rangers 6-1.

Phil Vandeveer scored Forest Lakeís only goal on an assist from Stendahl and Hanson. Roseville scored four times in the first period to take control of the game.

Sawyer finished the night with 34 saves.
