Posted: 1/22/03 4 injured in 2-car crash on US-61 in HugoA two-car crash on US-61 in Hugo on Tuesday sent four people to Twin Cities hospital with the driver of one of the vehicles in serious condition on Wednesday. Hugo resident Nicole Chelmo, 20, was traveling north on US-61 and waiting for southbound traffic to clear before turning west on 165th St. when her 1994 Dodge Shadow was rear-ended. Brittany Chelmo, 16, a sister of the driver, was a passenger in the car. They were heading to their home at 4895 N. 165th St. Weather and road conditions were described as good when the accident happened at 3:30 p.m., police said. The driver of the second car was identified by the Minnesota State Patrol as Leanne Kroska, 34, of 1044 SE 9th St., Forest Lake. Her son, Jordon L. Kroska, 3, was in the backseat of the 2002 Dodge Stratus. Nicole Chelmo was taken by air ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul where she is in serious conditions with head injuries, the State Patrol said. Brittany Chelmo was also taken to Regions where she was treated. Kroska and her son both went to St. John's Northeast with injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
