Nicole Chelmo, 20, dies from crash injuries

Tuesdayís rear-end collision on US-61 in Hugo has now claimed a life. The Minnesota State Patrol confirmed Thursday that Nicole Chelmo, 20, of 4895 N. 165th St. in Hugo, died Wednesday night from crash injuries at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Chelmo was the driver of a northbound vehicle on US-61 that was stopped and waiting to turn west on 165th St. when her car was rear-ended by a second northbound car.

Nicole Chelmo was airlifted to Regions. Her sister, Brittany Chelmo was listed in good condition at Gillette Childrenís Hospital in St. Paul, the State Patrol said.

The driver of the second car, Leanne M. Kroska, 34, of 1044 SE 9th St. in Forest Lake, was treated and released at St. Johnís Northeast Hospital in Maplewood. Her son, Jordan, 3, was not hurt in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation and charges are pending, the State Patrol said.
