Posted: 1/8/03 Edlund, Skoglund pace FL Nordic squadsBerk Brown A mix-up by race officials may have kept the Forest Lake Nordic ski squads out of the team standings at the Mesabi East Invitational, but it couldnít stop the Rangers from having individual success. After having been told by meet officials it was fine to have racers compete in both the freestyle and classic races, the Forest Lake teams found out after the race that it wasnít allowed and the Rangers were left off the team standings. While Forest Lake coach Deno Johnson said he was very upset by the crucial mistake, he said his teams were able to shake it off. ìThey know how well they skied,î Johnson said. Forest Lakeís Laura Edlund took first place in the 5K classic girls race in a time of 19:29.3 while Sarah Wright was 10th in 20:29.4 and Ruth Anderson was 13th in 20:46.4. Becky Alexander finished 58th in the race in 23:27.5 and Nikki Duff was 68th in 23:50.7. In the 5K freestyle girls, Edlund was fourth in 18:41.2 while Wright placed 13th in 19:24.3. Anderson finished 26th in 20:23.6 for the Rangers and Jenny Coozennoy was 135th in 25:52.8. In the 5K classic boys race, Forest Lake was led by Lorin Skoglund, who was sixth in 16:53.5. He was followed by Ben Fick, who was 19th in 17:54.7 and Peter Bailey, who was 20th in 18:00.8. Bill England finished 23rd in 18:18.7 and Ted Steiner was 31st in 18:43.3. In the 5K freestyle boys race, Skoglund was 12th in 16:14.2 while Fick was 17:05.7. Bailey finished 31st in 17:17.0 for the Rangers and James Babbitt was 100th in 19:25.2. |
